Summary

If you are only a reader of the Administrative Consultation Wiki, we gather no more information data about you than what is generally collected in server logs by web sites.
If you contribute to the wiki, you are publicly posting every word you write. This includes articles, user pages and discussion pages. This does not include some exceptions described below.

Public posting and publicly accessible data

If you are just visiting the website your identity will not be publicly disclosed (other than general data recorded by the web server, which is the same as on any other server - see Server Data below).
If you edit any of the wiki pages, you are publicly posting the document. This is a public act, which marks you as the author of the edit.

Identification of the author

Only logged in users can contribute to the wiki.
If you are logged in, you are identifiable by your user name. This can be either your real name or a nickname; depending on the name you chose when you created your account.

Cookies

The ACW will send you a temporary cookie (PHPSESSID) by each visit. You can choose to reject it, but you will be unable to log in without it. It is deleted when you close your browser.
You receive additional cookies after you log in. This allows you to avoid entering your credentials (username and password, if you so desire) the next time you visit the wiki. These cookies are stored for 30 days. You can delete them if you do not wish to reveal your username and are using a public computer. In such case you should also clear the browser’s cache.

Passwords

Many aspects of cooperation depend on the reputation and respect you build on with your content edits. User passwords are the only guarantee of the integrity of a user's edit history. All users are encouraged to select strong passwords and not to share them. No person should intentionally, be it directly or indirectly, expose the password of another user.

Server Data

Every time you visit any site on the web, you are sending a lot of information to the web server. Most web servers routinely maintain access log data (time of access, browser type, IP address, etc..), part of which can be used for generating an overview for determining page popularity, linking of other web sites to this page, and the analysis of types of browsers people are using (traditional Web statistics). The Administrative Consultation Wiki does not intend to use such data to track legitimate users.
These logs are used in the preparation of statistics. Statistical reports on pages from raw log data is not made public and is usually deleted after about two weeks.
Here is an example of an access log of an individual user visit of the website:
64.164.82.142 - - [21/Oct/2003:02:03:19 +0000]
"GET /wiki/draft_privacy_policy HTTP/1.1" 200 18084
"http://www.fu.uni-lj.si/mediawiki/index.php?title=Upravna-svetovalnica"
"Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/85.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/85.5"

Log data may be examined by developers in solving technical problems and in tracking down badly-configured search spiders. IP addresses of users derived either from those logs or from records in the database are frequently used to correlate usernames and network connections in investigating abuse of the wiki. Examples of such abuse are cases of suspected vandalism, harassment of other users, or disruption of the wiki.

Policy on revealing data derived from server logs

The Administrative Consultation Wiki’s policy on the disclosure of server logs allows the developers with appropriate access to disclose data in the following cases:

  1. With the permission of the affected user.
  2. When the information pertains to page views generated by a spider or bot and its dissemination is necessary to illustrate or resolve technical issues.
  3. When the user has been vandalizing articles or persistently behaving in a disruptive way, data may be released to assist in the targeting of IP blocks, or to assist in the formulation of a complaint to relevant Internet Service Provider.
  4. When it is reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of the wiki, its users or the public.

With the exception of the scenarios outlined above the wiki’s policy prohibits publishing of such data.

Exchanging User Information

The wiki will not sell or share your personal information, such as your email address, without your prior consent, unless it is so required by law.

Security of Information

The wiki does not guarantee non-disclosure of any information in case of an unauthorised access to your data.
E-mail

E-mail

You can specify your e-mail address in the user settings. This allows other registered users to send you messages using the wiki (unless the option is turned off in the settings). Your address is not disclosed to them (remains hidden), unless you respond to it or if the e-mail bounces.
If you wish to prevent the use of your e-mail address, you can remove it from the settings page at any time.

User Data

User data, such as edit time and number of edits is publicly available through the lists of "User contributions", and sometimes published by other users using aggregated forms.

Removal of User Accounts

The removal of user accounts is not possible once they have been created. They can only be closed or blocked.

Deletion of Content

Removal of text from the wiki’s articles (if you would like to remove your published text for instance) does not mean actual deletion. Anyone can view a previous version of general articles. If an article is "deleted", the deleted content can be viewed by any user with administrative access, that is to say, almost everyone we trust not to abuse the delete option. Information can be permanently deleted by the people with the access to the servers, but except in the case of a legal obligation there is no guarantee that such deletion actually happens.
